As predicted by the rumor mill, Apple has released its next update to the iOS 8 beta two weeks after beta 3. In addition to fixing several bugs, Apple has made some noticeable updates to its latest edition of the iOS 8 beta.
In iOS 8 beta 4, Control Center has a new look. Partitions of Control Center and their buttons no longer have borders. Separation is represented by two shades of grey. Selected buttons turn white.
Catching up to early leaks and rumors, beta 4 has a new Tips app. This app provides some pointers on lesser-known features of iOS 8. Apple promises to update these tips weekly.
Bug Reporter app
Apple has removed the Bug Reporter app from beta 4. This app was included for developers to easily report bugs in the early betas of iOS 8. Rest in peace.
Display & Brightness Settings menu
Screen brightness and text size now have their own menu in Settings. Curiously, brightness can still be adjusted in the Wallpaper menu, where it once lived.
In previous betas of iOS 8, multimedia messages were automatically deleted shortly after being viewed. In beta 4, these settings can be changed. Text messages and iMessages can be set to delete after 30 days, 1 year, or never. Audio and video messages can be set to expire after 2 minutes, or never.
Disable lock screen app suggestions
In addition to Handoff apps, iOS 8 can also suggest apps based on current location. In beta 4, these suggestions can be turned off.
Other changes include minor visual alterations, the Health app divides calorie counts into Active Calories, Dietary Calories, and Resting Calories, and home data has been added to the Privacy menu in Settings.
