Facebook has today launched a version of its Messenger app for iPad. The previously iPhone-only iOS app has been updated to version 7.0, bringing with it iPad compatibility.
Messenger maintains all of its functionality on the iPad, including instant messaging, featuring text and stickers, as well as voice calling. The UI will be similar to anyone who has used the iPhone version, being a mostly scaled-up version to fit the larger screen size while taking advantage of some of the extra screen real-estate by showing message threads in a side bar.
Previously, iPad users could access Facebook’s chat functionality through the Facebook app. Now, however, as Facebook continues to decouple its services into separate apps, users have a standalone app for the messaging services (and a better overall experience, it must be said).
Facebook Messenger can be downloaded from the App Store for free now.
