Those with access to the iCloud Beta site will notice something new when using the “Find My iPhone” feature. While Apple has used Google’s mapping service for their websites in the past, Apple is testing their own maps on the web in iCloud Beta. The new maps are simpler than Google’s offering. With that simplicity, though, comes a web map that loads faster than Google’s offering, downloading almost a tenth of what Google’s maps would normally download for the same data according to AppleInsider.
Many criticized Apple Maps when they launched with iOS 6 in 2012. However, since then, Apple has added more resources to their mapping team, and reports circulate that say Apple is updating map data daily. No doubt, Apple is taking their Maps very seriously.
As Apple improves their web mapping service, we will likely be seeing them use it on more of their sites. What do you think of Apple Maps? Let us know below!
