AgileBits recently uploaded a video (seen above) to their Vimeo account, showing off a new App Extension in the works for its popular password management app 1Password. For those who are unaware, iOS 8 introduces new API’s that allow developers to easily communicate with other apps through the use of App Extensions via the Share Sheet.
What this means for 1Password users is that you will now have the ability to tap the Share button (in apps such as Safari), tap the 1Password extension icon, which will prompt you for your passcode or Touch ID verification, and then allow you to easily choose the account you’re looking for. At this point, it will automatically plug in your username and password. This eliminates the need to leave the current app, open the 1Password app and copy the needed password, and then jump back to the app needing the password, where you’ll have to paste your password.
The video above not only shows off the new App Extension functionality, but also demonstrates how AgileBits plans to implement the new API’s that allow developers to use Touch ID for authentication.
Of course, this updated version of 1Password will not be available until the release of iOS 8 in the fall, but you can pick up 1Password now from the App Store for $17.99.
Are you a 1Password user who’s excited to use these new features when iOS 8 drops in the fall? Let us know in the comments or Tweet me @DarrenLinkNPark.
