With Father’s Day approaching soon, it’s about time to start thinking of some gift ideas if you haven’t already. Here’s a selection of fairly affordable iPhone accessories for your dad this Father’s Day.
Jaybird Freedom Sprint Headphones
Whether your dad is an avid athlete or he likes to mow the lawn, these sweat-resistant Bluetooth earbuds from Jaybird are a great choice. With only one wire going from ear to ear, the earbuds are sure to stay out of the way. The Freedom Sprints have buttons for standard music and call controls, and they charge via Micro USB. The earbuds receive good reviews on sound quality, and a secure fit. You can get them in black from Amazon for $72.69, or in black or white from Apple for $99.95.
iDevices iGrill2/iGrill mini
If your dad likes to barbecue in the heat of summer, Father’s Day is the perfect time to give him this gift. The iGrill2 syncs with an iOS 7 device via Bluetooth (with a range of 150 feet), and sends an alert to the iOS device when the meat reaches a given temperature. It magnetically attaches to the grill, and measures meat with 2 included temperature probes that can withstand up to 700 degrees Fahrenheit (2 more probes can be added for a total capacity of 4). The companion iOS app has recipes and temperature presets for various meats. Custom temperatures can also be chosen. A display on the iGrill2 indicates the current temperature as well. You can get it from iDevices for $99.99.
If the iGrill2 is out of your price range, iDevices makes a very similar accessory called the iGrill mini. It connects to the same app, with only one temperature probe. A 4 color indicator light on the iGrill Mini provides a simple way to check progress, going from green, to yellow, to orange, and to red when the meat is ready. The iGrill mini is yours (or your dad’s) for $39.99 from iDevices.
Mophie Juice Pack Air
If your dad’s okay with charging his phone via Micro USB, it could be a no-brainer to give him the Mophie Juice Pack Air. Mophie says that the charging case will give an iPhone up to double its normal battery life. The case comes in black, gold, white, and PRODUCT(RED) on Apple’s online store for $99.95.
Olloclip 4-in-1 lens system for iPhone 5/5s and iPod touch (5th gen)
If your dad takes most of his photos with his iPhone, the Olloclip lens system could be a good option. The system includes a wide-angle lens, fish-eye lens, and two macro lenses. Olloclip claims to have made improvements to the wide-angle and fish-eye lenses since their 3-in-1 system. See what Cam thought in his review here. The lenses all attach to one bracket that slips on and off, and into an included microfiber carrying pouch. You can get the lens system in colors matching any iPhone 5 or iPhone 5s, or black and red, on Amazon for $69.95.
Apple AirPort Express/Apple TV
Apple’s AirPort Express could serve many purposes as a gift. If your dad spends time in the garage, he might appreciate a way to play music wirelessly via Airplay while he works. The AirPort Express can always extend or create a WiFi network in the home, and connect a USB printer to the network as well. You can get it from Apple for $99.00.
If your dad spends more time on the couch, the Apple TV is another alternative for AirPlay features and more. The Apple TV can AirPlay audio and video, in addition to streaming content from iTunes, and several other content providers (listed on Apple’s product page in the store). It can be had for $99 from Apple.
