We seem to be getting a constant slew of iPhone 6 mockups and dummy devices these days with few bringing anything new to the conversation. However, some high quality video producers have managed get their hands on some of the purported iPhone 6 dummy units in order to compare and contrast them with the current generation iPhone 5s, HTC’s new One (M8) and Samsung’s latest flagship device, the Galaxy S5, which makes for more interesting viewing.
The first video (above) from Dom Esposito of 9to5Mac show gold and space gray versions of the ‘iPhone 6′ in comparison with Apple’s iPhone 5s which should give you an idea of the size of future iPhone 6 should this design be accurate. He also compares the mockup to Apple’s 5th-generation iPod touch which the next-gen iPhone is said to take design cues from, as we’ve previously heard.
In Esposito’s second video (below), he takes to comparing the iPhone 6 unit to the devices that are likely to be its main competitors upon launch – the HTC One (M8) and the Samsung Galaxy S5. As you can see, the iPhone 6 unit is slightly smaller than its competitors, owing to its smaller screen size, and is comparably thinner too.
Another set of videos, this time from Italian blog Macitynet.it, opt to compare the design of the iPhone 6 mockup to the iPhone 5s and the 5th-gen iPod touch.
Clearly, the mockup represents a larger-screened device with a much thinner profile than the current iPhone 5s.
Although the mockups we’ve seen in recent weeks generally seem to corroborate with each other, it is difficult to assess the reliability of the source of the dummies. The purported design simply represents what the iPhone 6 could look like.
The iPhone 6 is expected to debut this fall with a 4.7-inch display and all-aluminum chassis as thin as 6-7mm. The sleep/wake button has reportedly been relocated to the right hand side of the device to aid with one-handed operation with the device’s volume controls adopting the elongated pill shape found on the latest iPod touch. Most of the mockups we have seen have also featured what appears to be a single-LED flash on the rear of the device. Of course, none of the dummies are functional or contain real working parts so it is impossible to tell what Apple plans for flash unit at this stage.
What do you think of the latest iPhone 6 mockup videos? Do they give you a better insight into what the iPhone 6 could look like? Are you a fan of this purported design? Let us know your thoughts in the comments or tweet me: @TiP_AdamO.
