We’ve seen a number of leaks regarding the iPhone 6, including alleged design schematics and possible cases for the device, that all show a thinner, larger-screened next-gen device. Now, new pictures have emerged showing what is reported to be a dummy mold for the iPhone 6 that backs up what we’ve previously heard about the design.
Smartphone dummy molds are common for case manufacturers to refine their case designs ahead of the launch of new devices. Before you get too excited, the validity and reliability of the these images is questionable. French blog Nowhereelse.fr shared the images that were posted in a Chinese forum, so it’s best to take them with a pinch of salt.
As you can see in the pictures above and below, the iPhone 6 dummy purports to show a very similar design to what we’ve seen previously and could give a good physical representation as to what Apple is planning for the next iPhone.
Although the mold is pretty crude, it shows a device with a larger screen, a much thinner body with curved edges, pill-shaped volume buttons and protruding camera lens, all of which has been rumored for the next generation device. However, the dummy also seemingly shows a single-LED flash which may raise a red flag as to the accuracy of this mockup as this would be a step away from Apple True Tone flash in the iPhone 5s.
Overall, the design is somewhat akin to the iPod touch, iPad Air and mini in terms of the rounded chassis design and we’ve seen some stunning iPhone renderings based on this design aesthetic already. It has been widely rumored that the iPhone 6 could be as thin as 6mm (down from the 7.6mm iPhone 5s), leading some to question why Apple would make ‘thin’ a priority for the iPhone 6.
As we get closer to the expect fall launch of the next iPhone, we will no doubt begin seeing more part leaks that will allow us to get a better sense of the design of the device. For now, would you be happy to see a radically thin, redesigned iPhone 6 based on what we’ve seen so far? Are you looking forward to a larger-screened iPhone?
