iPhone 6 manufacturing images reveal 4.7-inch screen [Rumor]

Photos released from Nowhereelese.fr appear to show manufacturing moulds of the iPhone 6 that would suggest a 4.7-inch form factor.

The photos offered give iPhone measurements of 64mm x 138mm (roughly). A superimposed iPhone 5s image reveals that the mould would house a device with a 4.7-inch display, arguably confirming rumors that the iPhone 6 will sport a larger display. Of course, the deductions of the image could be misguided, Nowhereelse.fr stated:

Some of the holes that were drilled into the block in fact serve to fix the inserts which will form a crude which is then machined housing (finishes) using a CNC milling machine. Thus, and assuming that my theory is correct, the dimensions of the box will be determined by the widest part and not the bottom of the mold.

In this assumption, I started to resize the photo to scale against me in reference to the size of the iPhone 4s. I then measured the dimensions of the widest part of the mold which is approximately 138mm long by 64mm wide.

Current rumors purport that Apple is set to release two new iPhone models. A 4.-inch device and a 5.5-inch device, the latter being delayed slightly. This mould is not the most convincing piece of evidence we’ve seen in favor of a larger iPhone, and theoretically the mould could be used to manufacture anything. Also a little concerning are the given dimensions, that do seem a little unnatural when considered. Having said that, this rumor certainly conforms with the current pattern we’ve witnessed so far. With so many different voices telling us about the next iPhone and its 4.7-inch display, it almost feels like a certainty.

  • It’s quite likely Apple will release a larger phone, but for anyone that cares about one-handed use, I think the 4-inch factor will be the ideal phone. I’m happy with the size I have now.

Everyone says that, then they experience something bigger and they fall in love. And yes I know how that sounds.

You’re right, and wrong. I am an avid iPhone user and had quite a few different phones in my life. I would say the ideal screen size for media consumption AND one handed use is 4.3″-4.5″. My GS4 was simply too big.. I would like a bigger screen, but 4.7″ is pushing it. I’m sure Apply knows this, as they have teams and teams of individuals studying the tiniest details before they release a handset. If it’s bigger, I can safely bet that it will be between 4.3″ and 4.5″.

        Bigger isn’t always better.

Try out the HTC one. It will completely change your mind on a wanted screen size alongside quality of a phone. Never try out samsung and their cheap ass phones.

The question is if they go to larger sizes, will they always keep the 4 inch size? Its funny because Apple people always think what they have is the best vs competitors, but when Apple tells them something is better, they change their minds. I have a friend who still has the 3.5 inch phone and doesnt want anything bigger. I currently have a 5 inch phone and can easily maneuver it in one hand. Granted, Im a 6 foot male and not a 5 foot female. It will be interesting to see what happens. I know I cannot go back to a 4 inch phone. I put my old phone next to my current one and it looks ridiculously tiny.

Don’t worry. Even with a larger size, Apple will still have a way to make one-handed use at least semi possible. Nobody knows what iOS 8 will have that will work towards that. On top of that, rumors are suggesting it will be even thinner than the iPhone 5/5S, which would help make that happen as well.

I’m a 5’9″ male with average sized hands. Without my Mophie Juicepack, I can easily reach the upper most left corner of my iPhone 5S BODY with my right thumb (my thumbs are double jointed, making straight extensions difficult). Sadly, I have a feeling moderate to heavy users will still need to rely on a battery case, making it cumbersome to use one-handed. I really wish I didn’t need to use a case. Maybe Apple will make them out of Liquidmetal… doubtful.

Sadly, Apple seems to be working more towards form than function, at least when it comes to battery life. They could get a much bigger battery in a thicker phone, at least as thick as the 5/5S. Maybe Apple has some new mind-blowing battery tech coming along for the ride. I have my doubts on that one.

    This shows nothing…

It shows enough in a headline to make people click the article which is the only purpose of blogs and iPhone rumors

Anyone can post that. I really can’t see Apple going back to a summer release. They want the fall/holiday quarter numbers for the bean counters. On top of that, it would really infuriate customers who got their upgrade schedules situated around a fall release. It wasn’t too bad when they stretched the 4S launch out a few months, as more people were able to upgrade by then. The same won’t be true the other way around.
