App Store Feature

New and updated apps hit the iOS App Store every day. It can be hard to keep up with all of the latest and greatest that the App Store has to offer but here at TiP, we’ll bring you a weekly roundup of some of the most noteworthy additions and updates. Let’s check out what this week had to offer…

Cameleon screens

Cameleon is a neat new camera app for iPhone that enables you to pick out a filter for your photos in real time. Live filters are nothing new, many apps do it, but what makes Cameleon great is how you can quickly scroll through live filters which are applied to whatever you see in the frame meaning you can spend less time editing your pics after taking them — just choose the filter that works when shooting. Cameleon also allows you to give your videos the same treatment and has some cool extra features like double exposure and focus/exposure controls.

Thought Facebook’s $19 billion acquisition of WhatsApp would mean the social networking behemoth would neglect their own standalone Facebook Messenger app? Think again. The FB team pushed out an update to the app this week bringing it to version 4.1. The biggest news in this update: FREE CALLS. That’s right, Facebook Messenger is now capable of making free VOIP calls over Wi-Fi or cellular data so you can more easily stay in touch with all those people you really like on Facebook…

Monument Valley is a brand new game for iPhone and iPad that launched on the App Store this week and it turns out that we absolutely love it. Immerse yourself in a visually stunning and surreal game and guide protagonist Ida through 3D optical illusions and impossible geometric shapes. Check out our review for a full write-up of the game (tl;dr buy the game, it’s awesome).

Vine screens

The Twitter-owned video sharing app Vine also got a useful update this week that users will be happy to see. Following in competitor Instagram’s shoes (perhaps?), Vine added direct messaging (or VM’s as they’ll be known) into the app in version 2.0.0. Now you can have private, six-second video conversations with your Vine buddies or send videos to anyone via email or SMS.  The update also has some bug fixes and new customization options.
