“Indie Game Showcase” section appears in App Store

Photo Mar 21, 2 47 16 PMIndie games seem to be all the rage recently (Flappy Bird, anyone?), and it seems that Apple is looking to help out Indie developers get a little more exposure on that App Store by creating a section called “Indie Game Showcase.” As you can see in the banner above, the section is available on the App Store via iOS, as well as inside of iTunes on a desktop computer (check that out here: App Store). That’s not all, though, Apple also has a “10 incredible Games” section as well, see below:

Photo Mar 21, 2 47 22 PMThe way it looks like it is going to work is that it will highlight a different indie development studio/developer every week, this week starting with Simogo. The Showcase page says the following:

Often made up of just a few dedicated members, independent studios prove that what really matters is the size of your dream. In each Indie Game Showcase, we celebrate a popular game and its creative team, highlighting the developer’s titles along with their favorite games from other studios.

All of this focus on indie game development is coming just as the Game Developer’s Conference is coming to a close. Indie game development was put in the spotlight also recently by the sudden success and attention that was being put on the ever popular “Flappy Bird,” who’s developer was actually at GDC and said that he would be putting the game back into the App Store, but didn’t mention when.

What do you think? Are you looking into indie development as well? Do you have interest in the recent uptake in attention to indie development? Let us know in the comments, or tweet me @TiP_Kyle.
