How’s your battery life after updating to iOS 7.1? [Poll]

ios 7.1 batteryApple recently released the latest update to its mobile operating system – iOS 7.1. The update brought with it a number of bug fixes and usability improvements but with every issue fixed, another seems to arise. This time, it seems to be battery life.

Now, we know the battery life of our smartphone is precious. It’s one of the most requested features for the next iPhone so when we update the software, we definitely don’t want to take a hit and experience unnecessary battery drain. However, speaking from personal experience, it seems like the battery performance of my iPhone in particular has dropped significantly since updating to iOS 7.1. I’m talking 15% remaining by 4pm with usage that I would not describe as heavy by any means (and certainly usage that is no different to before I updated).

So, we want to know how has your battery life been since updating to iOS 7.1? Is your battery running out faster than before the update? Have you experienced increased battery performance after updating to iOS 7.1? Take part in our poll and let us know what you think.

If you’re not sure how to check battery usage, go to Settings>General>Usage and your battery stats will be at the bottom.

I haven’t really noticed much of a difference in battery life. It might be slightly less, but perhaps it’s from me playing with all of the new features of the upgrade. ;-) My old iPhone4 seems to work a lot faster and more efficient, so the trade-offs seem worth it to me. :-)

It’s hard for me to say. I feel like the battery MIGHT be a bit better with this update, but I have a feeling that I have been dealing with a battery hardware issue for a while because I’ll notice sudden rapid drops in my percentage and then it will stay there for a while and then drop again. I wouldn’t say there’s been a significant difference between the updates.

That’s a terrible poll. How many people actually time their usage? Surely you can come up with a better poll than that. I won’t even vote on it.

I would say it seems to decrease a little faster since the update, but it isn’t extreme.

When the battery life crashes, you start timing!

My battery life has not changed. It’s still user sensitive. I can go 12 hours on minimum use and 6 hours on frequent use.

On the first day I saw a 50% drop in charge in 3 hours, after doing what is outlined below I see a 50% drop in 24 hours.

This is what worked for me:

Turn off both location services and background app refresh, let the battery completely discharge. Recharge the battery completely, then turn both location services and background app refresh back on. This made the location services icon vanish and greatly improved the battery life.
