As it stands, only a couple of messaging apps on the App Store are worth downloading: Facebook Messenger, Google Hangouts and (pains me to say) WhatsApp. The first in that list has become as unmissable as the Facebook app itself for iPhone. Its clean, reliable and performs fantastically. What’s more, almost all your friends will be contactable through the app. Its latest update has just made it even more usable.
Facebook Messenger 4.0 landed on the App Store last night and brings with it a couple of new, and important features:
What’s New in Version 4.0
Groups: Now you can create groups for the people you message most. Name them, set group photos and keep them all in one place
Forwarding: Want to send a message or photo to someone who isn’t in the conversation? Just tap to forward it
Plus, continued improvements to make the app faster and more reliable
Of course, it’s a free download and is available on the App Store right now. Anyone with a Facebook account can use it. For me personally, it’s more important than the Facebook app itself. It lets me keep in touch with friends without seeing any of the viral, spammy nonsense that litters the Facebook news feed. Perfect.
