If Apple was doomed and iPhone didn’t exist, which smartphone platform would you be using? [poll]

I’ve been thinking a lot about iPhone’s impact on the market recently. Some of it was spurred by all the recent talk surrounding Kane’s “Haunted Empire” book, and the pre-disposition the author had towards Apple’s inevitable failure. All in all, it seems to be another “Apple is doomed” article, printed on more pages, with more words, inside a cover. But, what if Apple really was doomed?

I was entertaining that thought for a second, and wondered what device I would use if Apple’s $150-something billion disappeared overnight and it stopped selling all its products. Of the contenders, which platform would you switch to? Is BlackBerry’s BB10 software appealing, or is Microsoft’s Windows Phone a nice refreshing change? Would you switch to the Dark Side and go Android? Let us know in the poll.

Okay, Cam… you asked the question, but didn’t answer.

Yeah Cam, answer the question lol.

Maybe I did answer.. by taking the poll. ;-) Honestly, I think I’d end up switching between Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phone, because I’d not be perfectly happy with any of them. But if I had to choose only one, Android’s the only really viable one. More/better apps, great hardware + SwiftKey and Google Now which are two of my favorite things ever.

If the iPhone never came to be, Palm would probably still be in business. That’s what I’d be using if the iPhone wasn’t here. As for current platforms, I’m really not sure.

This is very true. Palm had the world in the palm of their hands and really messed up. I loved my Palm Trio…yes, the operating system needed some fixes, but those would have come in time. The hardware was top drawer and overall it was a good phone. That said, their is no other phone on planet earth that comes close to the iPhone.

      Good point.

True. But, the question wasn’t about the iPhone never existing, ever. It’s more of a response to the recent commentary on Apple being lost of ideas. I’ve read so many “apple is doomed” posts, I thought I’d use that as fuel to gauge where people were at, platform-wise.

But I do agree. I personally think that since iPhone, smartphone design has been really dull. They all – for the most part – look the same. We don’t get the same creativity anymore.

I would go to android but I would limit myself to the Nexus line, HTC, and LG high end smartphones
