iOS 7.1 has just been made available to developers as a beta, and early forays into the new release appear to suggest that Siri’s British variant will soon have a female voice.
Currently the British Siri is only available with a male voice, as of iOS 7.0.4, with no option to change this. However, users running the iOS 7.1 beta have found that there is now available a Voice Gender settings category when Siri is set to UK English, as confirmed by iDownloadblog.
It would seem then that the next version of iOS will allow British users to hear and interact with Siri in a female as well as a male voice. This feature is only currently available in US English, French and German. The introduction of male and female voices to Siri has remained a very exclusive feature, even though the technology is two years old. It’s probably safe to assume that the introduction of a female counterpart will be confined to UK English for now. However it’s still a nice addition to Apple’s awesome intelligent personal assistant.
Stay tuned to Today’s iPhone, where we’ll be bringing you a full list of new features in beta 4 later today!
