As we near the end of 2013, Google has looked back on the year that has passed with its annual Zeitgeist review. When looking at trending searches, the Goog revealed that iPhone 5s was the third highest trending search of 2013 worldwide behind Nelson Mandela and Paul Walker who both passed away recently. In the US, iPhone 5s was fifth and the only search term in the top 5 not related to a tragedy.
Google also put together a 90 second video featuring some of the most searched for terms and events of 2013:
Are you surprised to see the iPhone 5s trend at number 3 or did the popularity of the device mean this was to be expected? Personally, I am surprised to see any piece of consumer tech trend so highly when there are much more important global and political events occurring. However, Google is the most popular search engine in the world used for finding everything from the serious to the silly so it was perhaps inevitable the iPhone 5s, which had a massive launch creating an intense period of searches, would make the list.
