If you are – for whatever reason – unable to do Personal Pickup for an iPad mini with Retina display, but are still looking to get one, Apple Stores are reportedly beginning to allow walk in sales of the device. This is the first the company has offered this since the device launched a little over a week ago, keeping it only available online or via Personal Pickup until now. Supplies are not overflowing though, so don’t take this as a sign that the iPad will for sure be there when you arrive.
If you are able to use Personal Pickup, it is definitely the best option to go as you are then guaranteed to have one when you arrive. For someone like me who has an hour round trip to get to the Apple Store, it’s nice to know it’ll be there instead of taking the risk and wasting the drive over. Ordering via Personal Pickup is as easy as opening up the Apple Store app on your current iPad or iPhone and selecting the device for personal pickup at your local Apple Store. You can also do so online via Apple’s website.
Even through the Personal Pickup service it is somewhat hard to find certain iPad mini models, as they are not all always available at all stores. I was able to get my hands on a 16GB Silver model at my Apple Store, however after conversing with the staff (as usually ends up occurring upon my visits there) I was informed that shipments of iPad minis in the 64GB and 128GB options were much more sparse, with the lower numbers being more plentiful. Wi-Fi models, at least for this store, were much easier to come by than the cellular SKUs. So, if that is true for other stores, 16GB Wi-Fi models should be the easiest to get ahold of. Like I said, that’s just my store though.
What do you think? Are you going to try and pickup and iPad mini? Or are you going to use Personal Pickup? Let us know in the comments, or tweet me @TiP_Kyle.
