Today, Apple released its brand new, Retina-equipped iPad mini online. It was pretty surprising to see a major product launch without a press release, or any announcement. Thankfully, Apple’s set that right and has finally announced it officially, although some of you hoping to walk in to your local Apple store and pick one up might be disappointed. iPad mini with Retina is only available to order online.
That doesn’t mean you can’t get it from a store at all, you just need to go through the Personal Pickup options on the Apple store when you order. Stock levels are pretty low, and shipping times are estimated between 1-10 days.
“iPad mini with Retina display is available to order through the Apple Online Store (www.apple.com) to ship or through Personal Pickup at Apple’s retail stores, and through AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and select Apple Authorized Resellers.”
I’m sure this process will change once supply has caught up with demand. However, with Christmas just around the corner, Apple’s suppliers will need to get moving on producing these if they’re going to manufacture enough for the holiday craziness.
Since personal pickup is only available in the States, I’m not sure what this means for international Apple stores. If you’re outside the U.S., give your local store a call and let us know what stock they have, if any at all.
