Many watching Apple’s iPad event last month were a little upset at the Cupertino firm’s lack of a solid launch date for the second generation iPad mini that would be shipping with a Retina display, the most requested feature missing in the first gen mini tablet. It was a surprise that the company would take the wraps off of the device, announce that it would launch in November, and not give a firm date, especially since the iPad Air’s release date was pegged as November 1st during the same event. Fortunately for fans waiting on the smaller tablet, the wait could be over very soon…as in tomorrow (or today, depending on when you’re reading this).
According to Apple’s internal GSX website used for service and resale, the device is slated to land on November 12th. This is a surprise, as the message was just posted on November 11th, meaning that many were given just one day’s notice before the launch of the tablet.
Published date: 11 Nov 2013
iPad mini (Retina), delivering razor sharp text and detail in the same amazingly thin and light design, will be available in the following countries on November 12, 2013 (local time).
- China (Wi-Fi only)
- Hong Kong
- New Zealand
- United States
While it is possible that stores will begin to sell the iPad mini with Retina on this date, it is highly unlikely. As noted by AppleInsider, all of the countries listed above, with the exception of the United States, are already into November 12th, and there has been no additional information on the tablet launch in any of those countries. It is also strange because Apple generally launches its major product releases on Fridays, so a Tuesday launch seems very un-Apple-like to me.
While I hope this message isn’t just an error, it is unlikely that we will see the launch of the tablet tomorrow. If this message is true, will you be heading out to your local Apple Store to buy the new tablet? Sound off in the comments section below, or tweet me at @TiP_Griffin.
UPDATE: The Apple Store is currently down. While this doesn’t necessarily mean that the iPad mini with Retina display is coming tomorrow, it does make the rumor seem even more believable.
