Walmart has announced via Twitter that the new iPad Air will be priced at $479 on its release day next Friday.
Walmart is notorious for its Roll Back deals, having recently offered some great discounts on both the iPhone 5c and the 5s. The news means that the iPad Air at Walmart will be $20 cheaper than its retail price, an unprecedented launch day discount. The discount specifically relates to the base, 16GB W-Fi only model, and its unclear whether or not Walmart will offer similar savings on the higher capacity iPads. It’s also unclear whether this discount will be matched with the release of the Retina iPad Mini later next month.

Walmart’s iPhone discounts were fairly quickly matched by other major retailers including Best Buy and Target, so Walmart’s decision may result in a more widespread discount, which could mean you’ll be able to pick up the iPad Air up at a discounted price at other retailers too.
If there’s any further development on this we’ll be sure to let you know!
