The iPad 5 has long been rumored to be adopting a brand new body style, much more similar to that of the iPad mini. But since the introduction of Apple’s new color schemes with the iPhone 5s, it has also been rumored that the new full-sized tablet will also be taking on the new White/Gold and Black/Space Gray color combinations introduced with Apple’s newest flagship phones.
While these are all rumors, it is likely that we will see these changes implemented by Apple. To add to the evidence, iCrackuriDevice has posted a new “unboxing” video of the iPad 5 in the new space gray color option. While the device shown off in the video doesn’t contain any internal hardware or a screen, it does give us quite a nice glimpse at the rear shell in the new color.
It isn’t surprising to see these leaks starting to roll out as it is possible that we will see new iPads launched within the next few months. Unfortunately, this video does not confirm any new spec upgrades, although possible new features include a RAM upgrade, possible quad-core processor, and likely the inclusion of the Touch ID fingerprint sensor found in the iPhone 5s.
While I was skeptical of the new space gray color when Apple first announced it, after seeing it in person, I really do like it. I think it would look even better on an iPad than it does on the iPhone 5s, which is saying something because I think the iPhone 5s looks darn good. I also hope some of the specs listed in the video are real, because if so, this could be one of the biggest upgrades to the iPad, and would make it by far the best tablet available. Now, I just hope Apple puts a Retina display in the iPad mini as well.
