The Retina iPad mini is real! Finally, the 7.9″ tablet from Cupertino has a 2048×1536 resolution, but, with a catch: the price has moved up from $329 to $399. You can still grab the older iPad mini model, which design-wise is still exactly the same, for $299, which wasn’t a significant drop, but a drop nonetheless. One thing that did come as a surprise to me was that the iPad mini now includes the new A7, bringing it on par with all the other top tier devices including the newly announced iPad Air and the iPhone 5s.
As expected, this device will also come int he new Space Grey color, however there is no gold option to be found for any of the new iPads. No Touch ID was brought to the table, and the cameras remain at 5MP, not the rumored bump to 8MP like some of us expected. Outside of that, the only real new feature for the iPad mini was the Retina display that is now included, and some internal upgrades plus a price hike.
What do you think? Are you going to be picking up one of these new iPad minis? Upset over the new price point? Let us know in the comments, or tweet me @TiP_Kyle.
