As part of a concentrated effort to raise money for the RED charity, Jony Ive and Marc Newson have collaborated on a selection of one-off designs. One was a gorgeous Leica camera, another was a space-age table created entirely from Apple’s favorite material: Aluminum. Joining them will be this one-of-a-kind Mac Pro. It’s a limited run of just one unit, and is available for auction at Sotheby’s. With it being extremely rare, there’ll be no surprise for you to read that the price is much higher than the $2999 base price of the new Mac Pro. If you want to bid, you can expect to pay between $40,000 and $60,000.
After seeing it, I can’t help but wish Apple had made red a standard issue color for the Mac Pro. It’s absolutely stunning. But, the money is going to an incredible charity looking to eradicate the transmission of the deadly AIDS virus. Apple and RED have worked together a lot over the years, releasing (Product) RED iPods and accessories. Lets hope the two continue to work together in the future.
