For the first time in recent years – certainly the first time I’ve seen – a third party retailer is offering a discount on new iPhones at launch. Walmart will be selling both the iPhone 5c and 5s on Verizon, Sprint and AT&T with some money off. iPhone 5c will cost you $79 up front on a 2-year plan either as an upgrade or new contract. $20 discount is not to be sniffed at. iPhone 5s is also being discounted, but only by $10, setting you back $189 for a 16GB iPhone 5s on either of the aforementioned carriers.
Bad news for those hoping to order online, the deal is only available if you go in to one of Walmart’s brick and mortar stores. While I’m sure many will seek to save money on the device, I can’t imagine that those planning on lining up outside an Apple store and getting that launch day feeling will be swayed by a $10 discount. Apple’s stores in the States have been known to price match, so it could be worth trying it out.
