Spotify has just announced a brand new streaming service, Spotify Connect, due for release before the end of this year.
Spotify Connect is designed to give you “effortless control” over your home audio, in a way that builds on Apple’s AirPlay feature. Unlike AirPlay, Spotify Connect will stream music to your Wi-Fi speakers at home directly from its servers, rather than from your device. This means that whilst you can control the music playing from your mobile device, your device won’t be using up battery power streaming music over the air, freeing it up for any other use you can think of. The service has been developed alongside some of the biggest names in audio, including Bang & Olufsen, Denon, Marantz, Philips, Pioneer, Sonos and Yamaha. Some existing wireless models will also be compatible thanks to firmware updates.
The service is designed to allow you to seamlessly continue your music experience whether you’re out and about, or in the comfort of your own home. The service will launch on iOS, with compatibility for Android on its way. The service will only be available to Spotify Premium subscribers.
Spotify Connect will ensure that incoming calls or fluctuating signal no longer interrupt your home audio experience, because it essentially means that your wireless speakers will come pre-loaded with millions of songs, your mobile device simply becomes a remote!
Spotify is yet to confirm a release date for Spotify Connect, but rest assured that when it does, we’ll be right here to let you know!
