Some pictures of a supposed iPhone 5S box have “leaked” and are making the rounds today, but if you ask me, this will most definitely not be the iPhone 5S’s box. The photos come courtesy of CTechCN, which claims that they show the home button differences that indicate the fingerprint sensing capabilities. 9to5Mac reported a while back that it has heard whispers that the “etching and border of the Home button could become more shiny and look slightly different.” So, that part of this isn’t what makes me immediately dismiss the claim that this is the box.
What makes me look at this and simply say “no” is the wallpaper of the device. Am I the only one that believes Apple will not ship a box with a device sporting a black background? I hope not. Not only that, but look at the three previous generation iPhone’s boxes. The iPhone 4 had a black top to the box with a zoomed in/angled picture of the device in the respective color of the one you chose. The iPhone 4S was the same, except the top was white, not black. The iPhone 5 took a new approach, with the entire box being the color of the phone you chose, showing a complete device at an angle on the front. For some reason, I don’t see Apple going back to the simple front facing shot, especially with a black background. It will at least have one of the default iOS 7 wallpapers.
Anyway, we will most likely be seeing the iPhone 5S this coming Tuesday, September 10th. The event is taking place at 10AM PST, 1PM EST, and 6PM BST, so if you live in a timezone different than those, head on over to Google and search your time based on one of those. We expect to see devices such as the iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, and that should wrap it up. iPads are expected to be coming later in the year, with an iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 being heavily leaked thus far.
What do you think? Do you believe this is the right box? Or will Apple be more creative? Let us know in the comments, or tweet me @TiP_Kyle.
