Apple’s carrier practices in France are being investigated by the finance ministry, according to reports.
It appears that the investigation into Apple is part of a wider probe into relationships between mobile phone manufacturers and wireless carrier. A French investigation is part of a growing list of European capitals taking a look at Apple’s conduct, with the European Commission in Brussels already investigating Apple’s relationships with telecommunications operators. Apple is already involved in two ongoing inquiries with the Autorite de la Concurrence in France. Offices in France were raided to determine whether or not Apple has engaged in unfair competition against distributors selling Apple gear in France.
Tensions in Europe are running high as European capitals become more and more concerned over the large monopoly that American companies hold over the growing internet economy in Europe.
At the moment, it’s unclear what exactly is under scrutiny when it comes to Apple’s business conduct in France, so we’ll have to wait to see how this story develops. Knowing stories of this nature, it’s highly unlikely that we’ll see any significant developments for a number of months!
