Instagram took to its blog today in order to announce an updated version of its popular picture sharing social media application. Falling in line with other application updates, this new look and feel brings with it a flatter, more translucent look, as well as an extended status bar/navigation bar look. Profile pictures have also gone circular, which matches iOS 7’s Contacts application. Something I also noticed right away is that images and videos have been extended from edge to edge. Overall, Instagram took on a much more “white” look, with a lot of UI elements getting a white colored makeover.
With this update, Instagram said that it “led [its] redesign with a focus on clarity.” It certainly accomplished such with this update, bringing Instagram into a world full of iOS 7-styled applications now. I personally love what has been done to it, and if you are on iOS 7 I would recommend updating first chance you get. It still has a look and feel that you expect from Instagram, but also looks fresh and new, better fitting in with all your other iOS 7 updated apps. Design updates & performance improvements for iOS 7
You can get Instagram for free here: Instagram, and read its announcement on Instagram’s blog here: Instagram Blog. Only one thing stood out to me from this update: no new icon. Apparently Instagram doesn’t feel it should stray away from its coveted and well known icon just yet. While that is understandable, it just looks so out of place now with iOS 7’s redesigned icons. Hopefully in time Instagram will update its icon to better mesh with those of iOS 7.
