Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster is back at it with his Apple television set predictions. He has been stirring up talk of an Apple television set ever since 2009, saying it would be coming in 2011. Well, now we are here in the latter half of 2013 with no Apple made television set. This hasn’t stopped Munster from still holding his ground that Apple will be releasing a television, which he now says is coming before the end of this year, giving Apple just over 3 months to make an announcement. According to the Piper Jaffray analyst, the television set will be announced this year and released next year, a la the original iPhone and iPad launches where they were announced far in advance to the actual “available for purchase” date.
Now, many of us have no doubt that there is indeed something in the works over at Cupertino, whether or not it will come to consumers still remains a mystery. Television talk was picked up again when the biography of Steve Jobs written by Walter Isaacson was released in which Jobs claimed he’d “cracked” the mystery to making a great TV. Also, and interview with Tim Cook on NBC had him quoted as saying, “When I go into my living room and turn on the TV, I feel like I have gone backwards in time by 20 to 30 years. It’s an area of intense interest. I can’t say more than that.” There is obviously some interest in the TV arena for Apple, it just seems like a matter of time. I wouldn’t be entirely surprised to see an Apple television set with all the hints that have been coming from the company over the last year or so, but I don’t think it would be as soon as this year. But who knows, maybe it will be.
What do you think? Are you interested in an Apple television? Looking forward to seeing what Apple has up its sleeve? Let us know in the comments, or tweet me @TiP_Kyle.
