Amazon has updated its Amazon Instant Video app to include AirPlay support for iOS.
Amazon Instant Video allows users to watch over 140,000 videos from the Amazon Instant Video store, featuring popular TV shows and movies. The service is free for anyone with an Amazon Prime subscription. For a long time, users of the service have been clamoring for AirPlay support, and now finally, it’s here. Users on iOS can now push all Amazon video content to their Apple TV directly from their iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
Alongside this update, Amazon has added more IMBD integration to include cast info, ratings, trivia and quotes. The app is also apparently much faster and responsive, also supporting concurrent downloads. Alongside this is a new recommendations feature, pointing you to other instant video options based on your tastes and the viewing habits of like-minded users.
Undoubtedly, support for AirPlay will see a surge in use of Amazon Instant Video on iOS. AirPlay streaming on iOS remains immensely popular. It’s been reported that rather than update the Apple TV device, Apple is instead planning a software update which will bring increased AirPlay functionality, including the streaming of purchased iTunes content on a TV registered to a different Apple ID. There are also rumors of second screen capabilities, and new channels in the pipeline.
Amazon Instant Video is available for free on iOS now, with 30-day free trials of the service currently available.
