The iPhone 5S is widely expected to be Apple’s next flagship smartphone. Its spec list is something of a mystery, but its design is a seemingly foregone conclusion. I’m pretty sure most industry watchers will be taken aback if Apple doesn’t unveil a device that looks exactly like the iPhone (bar a few small exceptions). These latest leaks would confirm that it is indeed what we’re looking forward to.
Nowehereelse.fr, a French blog well known for its leaks and concepts came up with some new pictures today showing off the internal parts of the iPhone 5S. Unlike other leaks though, they’ve overlaid the leaked printed circuit board on to the leaked rear shell to show how the connection points lining up.
As you can see from the image above, you can see that the leaked circuit board’s screw-holes match up perfectly. For reference, the PCB shown overlaid is the one that leaked back in June completely bare. Sadly, it showed up with no chips or components, so there’s no way of confirming if the A7 chip is going to be sitting on it, or if Apple’s working on an A6 variant. That said, the very fact that the two leaks match up perfectly is a very good sign that not only are these genuine parts, but that their difference compared to the iPhone 5 mean that it is a new device.
Check out the comparison below and you’ll see that the mount positions are all difference, the PCB would not fit on to the rear shell of an iPhone 5:
Another new part is the home button spacer cushion. The image above shows that instead of having a completely symmetrical spacer, it angles off to have one fixing points to the bottom left corner, instead of two central fixing points. It’s an unusual choice, and it’s unclear why Apple went this way and didn’t stick with the current one. Is it because the home button is changing, or because the phone needs a sliver more space for an important new component. That could be wishful thinking, it could simply be a change in design for performance reasons.
All in all, it’s yet more food for thought. What exactly is Apple working on? Will the 5S have truly unique and innovative feature like the iPhone 4S had with Siri? Or will Apple not bother with a USP this year? Thankfully there’s not much time to wait.
