Having launched its Chromecast dongle for HD TV sets in July, it’s taken a few weeks for Google to finally make the iOS app available to download on the App Store. The free download will allow you to control the HDMI accessory and change settings like name, password and setting the Chromecast up.

Chromecast is the easiest way to enjoy online video and anything from the web on your TV. Plug it into any HDTV and control it with your existing smartphone, tablet, or laptop. No remotes required. Cast your favorites from YouTube, Netflix, Google Play Movies and Google Play Music and Chrome to your TV with the press of a button.

For those of you who’ve only had your heads in Apple’s devices and services, Chromecast is essentially a small HDMI dongle that acts in a similar manner to the Apple TV, except that it has no access to iTunes. You can – as the quote above reveals – use it to stream Netflix and YouTube content from your iDevice to your television. Perhaps its biggest benefit is its price. At just $35, it’s significantly cheaper than the Apple “puck”.

If  you have one, go download the app now.
