Twitter, today updated its iOS app to version 5.8 and at long last, it includes DM syncing. That means if you’ve read your direct messages on your computer, iPhone or iPad, it’ll automatically show as read on each of the other devices. So, no more annoying blue dots telling you to go an re-read every single message you get sent.
The update also includes “richer search results” and a new discover feature to help you find relevant accounts to start following.
From the App Store description:
What’s New in Version 5.8
New to Twitter for iPhone and iPad: when you read a Direct message it will be marked as read in all of your official Twitter apps, including twitter.com, mobile.twitter.com, Twitter for Mac, Twitter for Android and TweetDeck. When you read a message on another official Twitter app, it will be marked as read on iPhone and iPad.
We’ve also made more improvements in this version:
• It’s easier to join conversations with a new reply composer in the Tweet details view on iPhone
• Find new accounts to follow by tapping the new people button in the navigation bar
• Richer search results indicate when there are new Tweets for your query and show account results with bios and social context
• Report unwanted Tweets via the “More” button
Still, unless it ever includes a major design refresh, I can’t ever see my self leaving the combination of Twitteriffic for iPhone and Tweetbot for Mac for managing my accounts. Which clients do you use for Twitter? Is the official app good enough or do you prefer a third party option?
