Apple acquires Canadian startup Locationary

Apple has confirmed its acquisition of Canadian based startup Locationary.

Locationary has a large data exchange platform, using crowdsourcing to gather and collate data and geographical points for local business. Whilst Apple has inevitably made no concession as to the grounds for this acquisition, it’s almost certainly a bid to incorporate the service into Apples own maps software.

Such a feature would provide Apple’s own maps software with an excellent platform of business information that could be integrated into iOS maps to improve its functionality.
