iOS 7 alternative icons show up on Apple’s website

Some alternative iOS 7 icons have appeared on Apple’s website revealing different designs for a couple of key apps.

Whilst it’s not clear why these alternative icons have appeared, they were spotted by 9to5 Mac on Apple’s mobile site. Notably, the weather icon shown is actually displaying a temperature, which may well be live, similar to the live icon for the new clock app. Also, Passbook is shown with some slightly altered, and arguable more attractive colors, as is Reminders. The Mail icon appears a little more rounded than before, an Photos also shows some very slight alterations to the icons coloring.

Whilst this seems to be a website slip on Apple’s part, it’s yet a mystery whether these app icons represent an earlier stage of the icons’ designs, or more refined version of the current designs as seen in the beta and Apple’s press releases.

iOS 7’s icons have caused quite a fuss since their release. The design hasn’t gone down well with some, but for the most part, I think iOS users will be excited to be rid of skeumorphic apps, with the added bonus of a fresh color scheme to breathe some life back into iOS 7.
