Runtastic, a company which used to do just software tracking of running and other workouts, has announced some new in-house hardware. Formerly doing software only, Runtastic has decided to expand on its business model by throwing accessories into the mix, some of which are iPhone compatible. Pictured above is the “Runtastic Sports Armband” which you can use to securely strap your iPhone to your arm, and the device that is in the iPhone’s headphone jack is one piece of a two part accessory, which also includes a chest strap for monitoring “heart rate, altitude, distance ran, and more.” These work with the currently available Runastic iPhone application.
According to the company, 25 million users have downloaded the application, so there is some definite potential in releasing accessories for those hardcore workout people. Alongside these accessories includes another iPhone compatible one in the form of a bike mount and a bike accessory which actually does almost the same as the running one, only it measures how fast the bike’s wheels are turning in order to get the speed, distance, etc. For those of you interested, you can check out the site here: Runtastic Shop.
