Galaxy S4 vs. iPhone 5 – In Depth Comparison

Galaxy S4 vs. iPhone 5 MAIN

I’ve been kindly loaned a Galaxy S4 phone (as I’m sure you know by now), and over the past 7 days I’ve been comparing a couple of specific features of the two devices. I compared Siri with S-Voice and also gave the cameras a thorough workout. Now it’s time for the full comparison, and with news that Samsung is on track to sell 10 million S4 units in four weeks, the term ‘iPhone killer’ could finally come in to play without sounding ridiculous.

To save you from having to check over four different articles to get the complete picture, I’ve included both parts of the comparison video, the Siri vs. S-Voice video and embedded a gallery of all the photos I uploaded for the camera comparison.

Video Comparison – Part 2

S-Voice vs. Siri

S-Voice and Siri were fairly evenly matched when it came to delivering accurate results. Since a lot of the information needed either came from a default app or Wolfram Alpha, that makes complete sense. However, I did prefer that the iPhone had a much better in-app experience, as Samsung’s S-Voice regularly sends you out of the UI to a different app.

The two phone cameras were great, both gave different responses to all scenarios. The Samsung’s final image in often cases was more vivid and colorful, a trait which makes it ideal for snapping summer shots, capturing green plants, grass and blue skies. The iPhone has a much more subtle finish, with a more even tone. Browns, shadows and depth were its forté. Full camera comparison here.

Big thanks to Phones 4u/Dialaphone for lending us the Galaxy S4 to try.

Cam, you do realize that they’re going to come in the middle of night and take your Apple Fanclub membership card, right?  In all seriousness, what your review highlights for me is something I said on here a while back.  The only way to get a “bad” smartphone is to go cheap…  the current iPhone line up isn’t my thing, and I’m not sold on Blackberry 10, but that’s not to say either of them are “bad.”  I actually just recommended to a friend that she get an iPhone instead of an Android.  I find the WP8s stunning, and am generally impressed with Android.  The smartphone market is simply saturated with excellent offerings. To put it in “car lingo,” all they make are supercars…  You have to look long & hard to find a lemon.

@BrainRoopull Hahaha. It’d be stupid of me to pretend the S4 is a bad phone, just because it’s not an iPhone. I love iOS, but I know a good piece of hardware when I see them. This and HTC One are both fantastic phones.

Still patiently awaiting for the 5-inch iPhone

@raptorstv I dread to think how long we’re going to have to wait… I’m with you on that one.

@TiP_Cam @raptorstv An absolutely brilliant business move for Apple would be to offer the iPhone in different sizes, but with identical specs. One of the shortcomings of the Android market is that “top tier” phones are all big phones. If you want a smaller phone, you sacrifice performance usually in processor, camera, RAM and display.
Apple could exploit this in a huge way. I can just hear the keynote “in order to get a decent phone with other companies, you are forced to carry around ‘Hummer-sized’ phones. We at Apple don’t think that’s particularly fair…”
They could use that stupid “Hummer” line from Jobs that has haunted them to their advantage.

@Samboy need I remind you a Samsung fanboy is a fanboy nonetheless.. Only a cheaper kind with a homeless smell lol

Galaxy S4 is great because of the beautiful screen, powerful processors and the Touchwiz is feature packed. However I would still pick the iPhone 5 because the galaxy S4’s hard drive is half taken up by all of the features if Touchwiz plus bloat ware that cannot be removed unless you root. Lastly, a lot of the features on it, I wouldn’t use and it needlessly takes up space on the phone. Now that there will be a version with plain Jane android on it, it sure will make a far more compelling reason to have a Galaxy S4.

@Samboy That’s pretty far from the truth. Apple’s foothold in China is growing every quarter, and iOS is the most popular OS in Japan.
