As you will undoubtedly have heard and seen for yourself, Apple’s been running a 50 Billion App Countdown over the past couple of weeks. As with all major iTunes and App Store download milestones, there were prizes up for grabs for whoever downloaded that 50 billionth title. Today, Apple announced who it was and what he downloaded.
The 50 billionth app was ‘Say the Same Thing’ by band OK Go and was downloaded by Brandon Ashmore from Mentor, Ohio. That lucky iOS user will be rewarded with a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card and fifty others will be given $500 gift cards.
“Apple would like to thank our incredible customers and developers for topping 50 billion apps downloaded,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “The App Store completely transformed how people use their mobile devices and created a thriving app ecosystem that has paid out over nine billion dollars to developers. We’re absolutely floored to cross this milestone in less than five years.”
Huge congrats to the winner. I can’t imagine all the digital goodies I could download with $10,000 in iTunes credit. But I’m sure I could happily shock myself with how quickly I’d spend it. How about you guys? What would you download if you had a $10k iTunes Gift Card?
