Verizon Q1 results are in: 7.2 million smartphones sold, 55% were iPhones

It’s that time of year again. We’re approaching the last week in April and companies everywhere will be announcing their first quarter financial results, to show exactly how great (or bad) business has been in the first three months of the year. Verizon is first up, and it’s seen a huge increase in the number of iPhones sold year-on-year.

759502575It sold 4 million iPhones during the first quarter, making up more than 55% of the total number of smartphones sold. Impressive for the carrier who’s only had the iPhone for 2 years. All-in-all “Big Red” sold 7.2 million smartphones, with the majority of the rest being Android devices.

Over the next couple of weeks we’re expecting to see the other carriers and Apple itself showing its cards, giving an opportunity for us to compare in more detail how well each company has done. In regards to T-Mobile, it’ll be more intriguing to see its Q2 results in a few months time. Having only just launched the iPhone 5, they won’t show up at all in Q1 results.

The chart to the left shows the 3 iPhone carriers’ performance in regards to the Apple smartphone. All – expectedly show a spike during the holiday period, so we’re expecting the sales figures to drop considerably from the previous quarter for all carriers.
