Tweetdeck for iPhone shutting down on May 7

Fans of the Tweetdeck app, listen up! Twitter has announced that the application will officially shut down on May 7 of this year. The social networking giant purchased Tweetdeck for a cool $40 million back in 2011, and has been hinting that it would kill the app off for a while now. Take note that it isn’t only the iOS app that is getting the axe, the Android app and the Adobe AIR app are also shutting their virtual doors.

Now, don’t feel too bad for Tweetdeck – Twitter isn’t killing off the service entirely. Instead, it plans to focus on web-only development, keeping the dedicated Web and Google Chrome apps versions going. Furthermore, desktop versions of the app for both Mac and PC will continue as well, and Twitter has promised regular updates.
