BestBuy and Samsung have announced plans to open 1400 Samsung “Experience Shops” in stores throughout the USA… you know, the ones that look at exactly like Apple Stores.
The Samsung Experience store is designed to let customers “experience how the devices connect together to enrich their lives”. 900 of these stores will be open in various BestBuy outlets by early May, according to a press release. The remaining 500 should be open by the summer.
Stores will offer Samsung’s range of products including tablets, cameras, accessories, and of course the Galaxy smartphone line.
In a statement president of Samsung Telecommunications America Dale Sohn said:
“Consumers will have one place to not only explore and learn about our full portfolio of mobile products, but also the support of a Samsung expert to help with selecting and servicing them…This will truly be a unique mobile shopping experience.”
The irony of the word “unique” has been raised by a few people now, and not all of them Apple fans. I think its safe to say that Samsung clearly understands the success of Apple’s retail model, and is now looking to emulate that in its own retail ventures.
If you find yourself intrigued by the Samsung “experience”, then a trip to Best Buy will soon satisfy your needs. Until then, keep your eyes peeled for a retail-based Apple-Samsung lawsuit.
