Apple’s design guru Jony Ive has been having a pretty good few years. He’s in charge of design for a company famous for the design of its products, he was knighted by the Queen of England not too long ago, and more recently he’s found himself included in Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People list.
Ive is listed in the artist category, which also includes writer George Saunders, musicians Miguel and Frank Ocean, and actors Jennifer Lawrence and Bryan Cranston. Oh, and Jennifer Lawrence. Each name on the list is accompanied by a short writeup. Ive’s, penned by U2’s Bono, calls the designer “a Jedi,” saying that:
“Jony Ive is himself classic Apple… His genius is not just his ability to see what others cannot but also how he applies it. To watch him with his workmates in the holy of holies, Apple’s design lab, or on a night out is to observe a very rare esprit de corps. They love their boss, and he loves them.”
Jony Ive is not only charged with hardware design for everything from the iMac to the iPhone, he’s also in charge of software interface and design. This guy has a ton of pull with the way Apple products look and feel, both inside and out, so it comes as no surprise to see him on this list.
