Spotify has been missing one key ingredient since its launch in Europe a couple of years back. No, not The Beatles, or AC/DC: a web-based player. Finally, some users in the UK will now be able to get a taster of what the service will be like when it’s publicly available later this year. Spotify’s web player is now available as a beta in Britain. Sadly, it’s not a free-for-all, but Spotify has been “letting a number of users in the UK test out a beta version of our basic web player, which we’re gearing up to release later this year”.
To use the web player, you need to hit up play.spotify.com and login using your existing account details. The web-based player is almost identical to the Mac/PC app, so you’ll have no problem getting used to it. The only difference is that you’re using it from within a browser window and not using a native app.
As of now, there’s no concrete launch date for when this goes public, but, it will be before the end of 2013.
