Rumor: Apple to launch official iOS game controller

iCadeMobile_angle_Web_cWe’ve seen plenty of iOS gamepad-like accessories that work via various ways, normally over Bluetooth (such as the above iCade Mobile), but what would it be like if Apple released its own? Well, according to a new rumor out of Pocketgamer, that might just happen. According to anonymous developers, Apple has contacted them looking for developers that will get early access to the device. These developers, which were present at the recent Game Developers Conference, said that the device is expected to be launched at the usual April event that has, at least for the past few years, been mostly focused on iPad. However due to the recent iPad 4th generation introduction, this event may be used for something else – like this game controller.

Some speculate however that the game controller may be introduced later alongside Apple’s heavily rumored television set, as it would then tie in to the device. Nothing is concrete at the moment, but this would surely be something many would be interested in. Personally, after rumors and rumors of the currently available Apple TV finally getting support for 3rd party applications, I would like to see this come out as a way to then control those applications, and more specifically the games that may be released. That, from my point of view, would be one of the most practical uses. I mean, Apple did just update the software a month ago with Bluetooth peripheral support…

What do you think? Interested in an official game controller from Apple? Or do you think it should be dedicated for the Apple TV? Let us know in the comments, or tweet me @TiP_Kyle.
