16 years ago, an irritating pocketable digital pet hit the scene and instantly became part of every child’s wish lists for the holidays. Tamagotchi is a name that will be familiar to anyone who grew up in the 90s. Essentially, it was a tiny monochrome LCD display wrapped in hideous plastic and hung from a keychain. The idea was to feed and play with this tiny dinosaur/dog/cat/[enter animal name here] ensuring he was well fed, looked after and had plenty of fun. If it wasn’t looked after, it died.
If you’re feeling nostalgic remembering Tamagotchi, you’ll be glad to know, it’s hitting the App Store soon as an iPhone app. If – like me – you’d rather it never existed and everyone should have ignored them in favor of the awesome POGS, you don’t have to download it. I know I won’t be. Tamagotchi L.i.f.e will be released by Bandai some point soon. Keep an eye out for it. You know, if you’re in to that sort of thing.
