Looking for the perfect bottle of wine can be overwhelming, especially if you’re shopping for someone else. If you don’t know much about wine, Blush can help you find the right one to match your taste, occasion, and budget.

Blush makes it easy to find the perfect wine to pair with a meal (be it romantic or social), to give as a gift, or to help you unwind after a long day. The discovery process starts by asking “What’s the occasion?” and you can choose from dining, gift, social, or relax.

Based on your selection, Blush will ask a couple more easy questions. For example, if you’re looking for a wine to pair with dinner, the app will want to know what you’re eating and what kind of flavors you usually enjoy. If you’re shopping for a social occasion, the app will ask you to categorize the event — casual, date, formal, picnic, or barbecue.

For the purpose of this review, let’s choose date. All you valentines out there, take note. Once selected, Blush will ask you to choose between red and white. If you prefer red wines, the app will ask how you like to take your coffee or tea. On the other hand, if you prefer white, it will ask how often you salt your food. To get an even better idea of your palette, it asks you how you like your favorite food: spicy, flavorful, or subtle.

Finally, Blush will ask your budget, ranging from less than $10 to $40+. If you’re feeling daring, you can select “any price.” The app will then make suggestions that match your mood. You can tap on any of the suggestions to learn more about them. If you’re in a hurry, you can tap the “Find Nearby” button and Blush will tell you where you can purchase the wine locally.

You can also scan the barcode on any bottle of wine and Blush will retrieve information about that particular blend. If you’re already in the store, you can use this to help confirm whether the bottle you’re eyeing will match your tastes. Additionally, you can use it to remember wines discovered at a dinner party — just scan the barcode and tap the heart icon. All of your scans are saved under the History tab for easy access.

Blush is beautifully designed and extremely user-friendly. The discovery process is fast, welcoming, and at no time makes you feel lame for not knowing more about wine. Whether you’re tasting for the first time or a seasoned sommelier, Blush is a must-have app.
