Speck CandyShell for iPhone 5: Review and Gallery

iPhone 5s were supposedly a big gift item this holiday season, and what better to protect that new gift than with a great case? Well, I’ve got a good one for you here today. The Speck CandyShell has been on my phone the past week and a half to two weeks, and I doubt it’s coming off anytime soon. I love this case, it offers a great design, great protection, and has earned the reputation as my favorite case.

Design

The Speck CandyShell offers a great design with a hard plastic outer covering that is lined with a tough rubber to help with impact. The case fits very tight to the phone, so when using it you won’t feel it moving around or feel as if there are any spaces between your phone and the case that would allow for dirt to get in and scratch the phone’s beautiful anodized metal. To make it even better, the CandyShell has a very thin profile, adding very little bulk to the iPhone 5. All of the buttons are easily clickable, and the mute switch is very easy to reach through a cutout on the side. The Lightning port and headphone jack on the bottom are also very easily accessible and shouldn’t be a problem when used.

This case feels awesome in hand. Most people when they think of hard glossy plastic think it is going to be slippery and fall right out of your hand. That certainly is not the case. The rubber edges that line the front of the case and device also provide extra grip for placing your phone screen down when you are, say, driving in a car and don’t want it slipping off your dash/console. Speck provides this case in a variety of colors, coming in at a total of 18 different combinations that can all be found on Speck’s site at the source link below.

Protection

Arguably the most important aspect of any case, the Speck CandyShell offers great protection. With a dual-layered design featuring a hard plastic outside and a tough rubber inside, this case can protect against some modest drops, and definitely protect against scratches as it wraps completely around the phone. If you’re someone that worries about some cases easily coming off your device, you won’t need to worry with this case. This case holds very tightly to the device, even making it hard to get off at times. This isn’t a case you will want to be taking off and putting on repeatedly, this is one you will put on to stay on (for the most part). The strong rubber really grips around the phone.

Overall

All in all, I love this case. It has jumped up to being my favorite case to use. I have used Speck for a while now, but debated getting this after the one on my iPod touch broke on the bottom, as the plastic was just too thin. After getting this though, I’m glad I did. A really great case will have to come across my desk in order to get me to change off of Speck again. My one complaint about this, and the reason it is not quite a 10/10, is it scratches easy. Not the phone, it protects the phone flawlessly, the case it self. They aren’t deep scratches by any means, but they are to the point where it scuffs up the back of it if you hold it right. That is only a small matter though, and has no real effect on its job as a case.

If you are interested in buying this, and I highly recommend you put it on your list of choices, you can find it here: Speck CandyShell. Also check out the gallery below!

i have had this case since a week after the iPhone 5 came out. I like it a lot. the one thing i don’t like is the fact that it feels oily. I love it otherwise. I actually dropped it face first from chest height on accident and it just went *SLAP*. I picked it up and nothing was wrong with the phone. I was really impressed.
