Rumor: iOS 6.1 to be released tomorrow? Jailbreak to follow?

If any of you follow Apple developers, you may know that there is a rumor that Apple may release iOS 6.1 as soon as tomorrow. The current beta of Apple’s latest software for iOS is set to expire Sunday, meaning that we are likely to see Apple roll out the official 6.1 update soon.

In addition to the rumor that Apple may be pushing a software update sometime tomorrow, there is also a rumor that a jailbreak is almost ready for the new software as well.

The tweet above, from @pod2g and @planetbeing, have led many to believe that a jailbreak for iOS 6.1 has already been figured out, and will be released shortly after Apple pushes the software update. The developers are hoping that Apple does not patch an exploit used in the jailbreak, and it is believed that if the exploit is not patched, a jailbreak will be released soon.

What do you guys think about this rumor? Are you excited about the possibility of getting your hands on the official iOS 6.1 tomorrow? Or would you consider jailbreaking? Let us know in the comments below.

I’m keeping my 5.1.1 unteathered jailbreak until they figure it out! Took me around 3 hours to figure out how to roll back because I lost my SHSH blobs :D But I found them and now I have all my stuff back!

Please let my dusty iPhone 4 get 6.1! I need it to hold out until January 2014!  (Long story, but my brand new Android phone just wasn’t doing it for me :[)

@BrandonUlreich lucky you. I sacrificed my 5.1.1 untethered for the grabs of a great deal on the iPhone 5. However, I know the posse is ready to release soon.

@BrandonUlreich I am in the same boat. Iphone 5 – no jailbreak yet!

@iPhone4Owner Exact opposite. I was dying of boredom with the iPhone 5…went back to the Note 2. My iPhone days are over until they completely reinvent the iPhone. iPad is enough for my ios needs for now.

I understand that the journalist who wrote this is a high school kid, but let me give you some tips dude.
I was there when this story broke on IRC. There is no mention of iOS 6.1 coming out tomorrow, in fact, we will see it on the 29th at the EARLIEST, because iOS 6.1 beta 4 doesn’t even expire until the 28th.
Yes, it’s true that there is a jailbreak lined up for the release date, but what you’re doing here is called sensationalist journalism, otherwise known as making lies, or making things appear more appealing than they really are.
It’s cool if you want traffic on your site, I don’t blame you for that, but sensationalist media is the cause of so many issues in America, and around the world these days. I think it would be a wise decision, if you want to be a journalist, to build a reputation based on peoples trust. You don’t want to be known as “that one guy who makes sh** up”, I’m sure of that. Nobody else really wants that for you either.

@JustAware apple doesn’t wait for the beta to expire because nobody would be able to use their ios device. Apple always gives them a period of time to update their devices before they become inoperable. It’s best for them to release it as soon as possible so people have time to update before they expire. I think they are taking this long to try and figure out how to stop the jailbreak from happening because it seems to be imminent upon its release. Most likely between today and Monday will be the GM release.
