I know, we’ve all heard it before. But once again, Piper Jaffray’s analyst, Gene Munster, has announced that he believes that Apple will launch an HDTV, dubbed iTV, and a new remote some time later this year.
Although he has talked about the possibility of an iTV before, Munster claims that talks with Apple suppliers have confirmed that Apple is finally planning to release the iTV. Munster also believes that a new Apple Remote will be an important aspect of the television’s release. While referring to the new remote, Munster said “We think fixing that is going to be an important part of it.”
Munster expects the iTV to be a vital part of convincing investors to invest in Apple once again. He also believes that an iPad mini rockin’ a Retina display and a cheaper iPhone will also be important in reviving faith in investors that Apple really is the company of the future.
There are those that believe Apple is more likely to release a revamped version of its current Apple TV set-top box, but Munster disagrees. According to a recent interview with Bloomberg:
“The core of the debate is an improved set-top box… a hockey puck that attaches to your TV, or an actual television. Based on our work, in part, with talking to suppliers in asia, to talking with people in the industry, we think its an actual television.”
So would you plan on buying an HD iTV? Or would you prefer Apple to just release a new version of the Apple TV’s set-top box? Let us know!
