Rovio makes Angry Birds Rio free on iPhone and iPad, for a limited time

Calling all Angry Birds fans! Do you have Angry Birds Rio, or have you stuck to the others? Well, if you weren’t into the Rio flavor of the popular iOS series, now would be a good time to go ahead and try it out. Why, you ask? Because it is free right now, that’s why. Angry Birds Rio has been made free, for a limited time of course. Rovio made a partnership with the producers of the film “Rio” (hence Angry Birds Rio) to use the characters in the film for the game. I’m not completely sure on the details of that because it was nearly a year ago when all that went down, but here is the connection to the game, from the App Store:

In Angry Birds Rio, the original Angry Birds are kidnapped and taken to the magical city of Rio de Janeiro, where they eventually escape their captors and set out to save their friends, Blu and Jewel – two rare macaws and the stars of the hit motion picture, Rio. Angry Birds Rio pairs the physics-based gameplay of the original game with unique twists based on the film.

So for those of you who have yet to check out the games, this would be a great gateway into the series. Fair warning though, you will most likely become addicted. It’s a great time waster though, so if you were looking for something, why not a paid game gone free? These usually retail for $0.99 for the iPhone version and $2.99 for the HD (iPad) version. You can get it here: Angry Birds Rio, Angry Birds Rio HD, or just check the top free, as it has climbed all the way to #3 in the US (on the iPhone).

What do you think? Going to take advantage of this? Already have it? Let us know in the comments, or tweet me @TiP_Kyle.
