Report: Apple is done, Surface is in according to teens
When you hear “Microsoft Surface”, what do you first think of? Personally, I think of how the Surface hasn’t been selling well. It is the “wannabe” iPad from the folks up in Redmond, and it hasn’t amounted to what Microsoft thought it would. However, according to a new report, the iPhone and other Apple products are “no longer cool” in the realm of teenagers. This all coming from Buzz Marketing Group, the report said the following:
Apple has done a great job of embracing Gen X and older [Millennials], but I don’t think they are connecting with Millennial kids. [They’re] all about Surface tablets/laptops and Galaxy.
I know that being a teen myself, I don’t speak for the rest of my generation, but seriously? I honestly have seen no one in my school of 2,000 (which isn’t small, but not the biggest) talk about rather having a Surface over an iPad. It just isn’t something you hear. While the results of whatever methods used to find this information may point towards the proposed conclusion, I am not believing this very much. I may be skewed by my own opinions on this (and they are only that, my opinions) but I don’t think Apple is “out” by any means. I guess we will see when my generation begins entering the work force and buying demographics, as some of my older classmates already are, if this has an effect on Apple’s sales and profit numbers.
What do you think? Is Apple out? Is the Surface in? Let us know in the comments, or tweet me @TiP_Kyle.

Apple became cool with the iPod and they kept getting better with the iPhone and the iPad, but they have stopped innovating at a time that Microsoft and Android OEMs are stepping up. XBox is awesome and with the addition of smartglass (for phones and tablets) and Kinect for voice and gesture control they are pulling away from Apple. I am interested in the Surface but I haven't purchased one yet. I am using Windows 8 on a non touch device and I like it. An advantage to Windows8/RT is that I have many, many choices for hardware. Different vendors produce different sizes and form factors of the tablets. Microsoft is rumored to be coming out for an integrated smart glass tablet for the XBox. What made Apple products great was the hardware innovation (that has dwindled while others have surpassed them). What makes Apple products great today is the applications that can run on them. That is also changing as more apps are written for the Android tablets and the Microsoft 8/RT. Apple has a chance to keep its user base but things move quickly in today's tech oriented marketplace, they need to step up or lose the future. Sure, old foggies will still use Apple products (because they are simple enough for my grandmother to understand) but the young people will always gravitate towards the best/coolest at the time. I currently have an iPhone but my next phone will be a Windows Phone 8 device (hoping for a Phablet). I am looking to buy a tablet and it will most likely be a MS OS like RT or Win 8. I am also considering a couple of cheap Nexus tablets. Disclosure: My family has 3 iPhones, 1 Android phone, 4 iPods, 1 iMac, 1 Windows laptop, 3 Windows desktops/servers, a net book, PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 and an Amazon Kindle Fire tablet. My girlfriend just switched over to Windows 8 on here laptops and she loves it. She is interested in the Windows Phone 8 as well.
